The Retirement Hamlet

The planned Retirement Hamlet will be situated in seven acres of woodland, with views overlooking the Wensum Valley and the adjoining golf course. The Consultant team Building Design + Management (UK) Ltd of Mattishall led by Rod Thorne said: "The proposal is to construct buildings, contemporary in design, utilising high quality materials and sited with minimal impact upon the topography of the site and existing treescape.  Final details are being put together in order to submit a planning application to Broadland Council and if approved development is likely to commence in the autumn of 2011.

The nursing home will replace the current dwelling permitting commanding views across the river valley to be enjoyed by the residents, whilst the low rise apartment blocks nestle in the natural hollow, consistent with the valley floor."

Commenting on the planned retirement complex, Graham Tuddenham said: “We see this project as a new concept for Norfolk and one which is much needed in this area. It will provide high quality living accommodation in a safe retirement-led community.”

He adds: “The two bed retirement apartments will provide independent living arrangements with round the clock access to nursing care and assistance provided by the on site professional and nursing staff as and when required. In addition the new 6 rink outdoor bowls arena will provide further opportunities for Members and residents of the complex to participate and play bowls all year round on a high quality surface in addition to current indoor facility .”

The new development will see the creation of some additional 24 full time and 16 part time jobs.
